The National Toll-Free numbers issued for the Atal Pension Yojana are 1800-180-1111 / 1800-110-001. On 9th May 2015, India’s Prime Minister, Narendra Modi launched the Atal Pension Yojana along with two other insurance schemes in Kolkata. Simultaneously these schemes were launched across the nation through different events organised in various States and Union Territories.
The Atal Pension Yojana aims at securing the people working in the unorganized sector with a monthly income during their old age when they are no more earning. This scheme is open for any citizen of India working in the unorganized sector between the age group of 18-40. The interested citizens should have a savings bank account and should not be a member of any other social security schemes.
Having a bank account is very important because the monthly contributions of the scheme holder would be deducted automatically from the bank account every month. So, if a person doesn’t possess a bank account, he/she should open a savings bank account. In addition, having a mobile number is essential which is required at the time of registration.
For the first five years of the scheme, government will contribute 50% of the total contribution of the scheme holder, or Rs.1000 per annum (whichever is less). The co-contribution of government is available for those citizens who join the scheme 31st December, 2015, and who do not fall under any Statutory Social Security Scheme as well as not an income tax payer.
